The Bellingham Country Dance Society presents an ongoing series of participatory old-time country dances, mostly New England contras with some squares and circles thrown in.
Dances are at the historic Fairhaven Library in the beautiful city of subdued excitement known as Bellingham, Washington unless otherwise noted on the schedule. Always live music. All dances are taught. Everyone is welcome. No partner necessary. We recommend loose-fitting clothing, and soft-soled non-street shoes to protect the dance floor. Please do not wear fragrances to dances, since some folks are sensitive.
Dances are usually on the second Saturday of the month, September through June.
The dances start at 7:00pm with a half hour newcomers workshop. The dance itself is from 7:30pm to 10:00pm. See our upcoming events in the sidebar, or check the Calendar tab for more details about each dance. Note that clicking through to a specific upcoming event will display all event details, including any photos.
There are usually several special events scheduled throughout the year. These are noted in our schedules and have included summer outdoor dancing, all-day or dusk-to-dawn dances, New Year’s Eve dance galas, and ferry boat dance-cruises of the San Juan Islands.
$12 – $15 is the suggested donation to pay for the hall and performers (band, caller, and sound). Special dances: $15-20 Adults, $10 Student. New Year’s Eve Dance: $15-20 Adults, $10 Student, 12 and under Free
